Turn Signal problems

So here's the story, When i got the car they would work weird- blink blink blink blink solid. A little bit later, the problem dissappeared, but now it's back.
So far I've:
-checked fuses
-checked connections to tail lights
-checked fusible links
It will blink fine then stop and stay constant, and then every other time you turn on the signals, solid.
Any ideas?
I searched, but didnt find what i was looking for.
Thanks.

Almost sounds like the relay for the flasher is going bad, wish I could tell you more, but I dont have my car or my Haynes handy.

You'll need to replace the flasher unit. It's under the dash.

Looking at the FSM it looks as if you have the same system as the 84/85 where the system uses the same flasher unit to drive both the turn signal and hazzard lights.

So what you do when the signals act up is to turn on the hazzards.

- If it starts flashing then the flashing unit is good.

- Walk around the car and see which bulb is dead.
