Turbo Oil Return Line

Im using an S4 turbo on my 12a. Im going with the Billet Machined One Piece Oil Pedestal from respeed (With a 1/8" NPT hole on the side closest to the intake) for my oil supply line.

Are there any advantages of tapping the front cover and using that for the oil return line verse tapping the oil pan for an oil return line?

Sure there is.
You wont have to unbolt the return line if you need to pull the oilpan.

Do notice that if You tap the oilpan that You do it above the oil level or you'll be fucked.

Also the front cover is thicker than the oil pan, and chances of leaking are a lot less.

You make it sound like I can tap it w/o removing the front cover and by only removing the oil pan...?

The motor is already out of the car. The only reason I wanted to tap the oil pan instead of the front cover is becuase of pulling the front cover and the damage assosciated with the thrust bearings in there?

So can I do it without pulling the front cover off and just remove the oil pan?

Yours looks nice and shiny. Do you have any close ups?

What did you use to tap it? What size is it?

Turbo return should be as large as possible and have as few bends as possible.

I plan on taking mine to a local machine shop, and having them tap it for me, get them to use the old return tube and make it threaded, and using the stock set up pretty much.

I will see if they can do that, and how much it will run me. If not I will just make my own.

I got enough to worry about with the wiring, I can leave the tapping up to someone else.

Front cover is the only way to go.......I dont think its even possible to drain to the oilpan and have it be above the oil level. No need for paying a machine shop, the tap can be had at almost any hardware store for less than 20 bucks.

Also,be sure that the passage you use on the pedestal is plumbed to the clean side of the oil filter(the center hole). No point in feeding dirty oil into those tiny little turbo bearings.

Once you pull the pan, you can catch any debri from getting into the engine. I don't believe it is possible to gut the hole in the pan high enough for the oil to drain properly.

Sit the engine on the flywheel when removing the front cover, that will prevent any problems with the torrington bearings. And yes, put the drain on the front cover, it is very easy to do!
