Trunk struts

So i bought a couple trunk struts to replace the old ones since the old ones dont hold the trunk window open anymore but now i have a problem, well more like i was wondering are they supposed to be so hard to open and close or is there a way to adjust it? or do i have to force it on there?

Mine did the same thing when I first replaced them. I installed them, and then realized that my hatch woudn`t go down anymore because the shocks were too stiff. So I took them off, and compressed them by hand a few times. After reinstalling them, they worked fine. Maybe they sat in the package for too long, and needed to be pushed in and out a few times to get them loose.
