Trip to NY a success!
Hey Guys,
Well my trip to NY went off without a hitch. Well... *relatively* hitchless.
The intake manifold wasn't ready (though we had a spare for tuning), we ran out of jets/air bleeds, and couldn't really tune much because my exhaust isn't done yet. Not to mention I almost killed Sterling by losing control of his car. Damn it's fast (for an '85GS with a stock 12a! an inspiration for mine for sure).
But I've gotta say, it was one heck of an experience. Sterling and his wife were awesome hosts, and put up with my incessant "it isn't like this in Canada" ramblings quite well. I learned more about carbs in two days with him than I have in a year of trying to figure things out on my own.
In the end, I made it back to Canada (1,500km later!) with my new Sterling Carb and Airbox, a better understanding of how to tune it, and a great experience.
First person to pick out the ironic joke of pic #1.... should keep it to theirselves

Yeah, I've done a heckuva lot of work on it this year. There'll be a thead on that too at some point.
I don't remember what gear I was in, all I remember is that I punched it and the back end kicked loose. Luckily I had the presence of mind to get the car back into control, but it never should have happened.
And wait until you guys see it with the airbox in place. I'll snap a pic of it when the car comes back from having its exhaust work done.

LMAO!!!! That's a pretty cool pic Jon (#1), but I won't give away any secrets!
Nice car man, and by the way who is who? I'm pretty sure that you're on the right, but I was expecting Sterling to be some wizened old man with a long white beard living in a cave at the top of some mountain!

You could also relocate your cannister like I did. Not a huge change, but it puts it a little lower and out of the way. I think I used the CC mounting position.

I notice one thing on your car Jon, the heat shield is gone from the exhaust manifold. I just removed mine a few weeks ago as is was rotted, and found that is puts out quite a bit more heat. If you have a look for a thread in this section on "idler arm bushings" you will find that some people have had an issue with the heat melting the bushings. I made a very basic heat shield as a result, and the measurements are posted in the same thread.
Glad you had a trouble free trip after the grief you went thorugh just before you left.
And Wacky - come to any big Canadian city, believe me we have MORE THAN ENOUGH illegal aliens of our own! lol

engine is lookin' good too. i have a Q about your overflow bottle, is that stock for 85 or something? mine doesnt have the extra hose coming off the end which looks to be when it is overflowed itself) and also mine isnt so damn clean!
where'd ya get it?

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Yeah, I'm the guy on the right in pic1.
The charcoal canister is going to be replaced with one from an FC which is small black and plastic. That should look better. I just haven't gotten around to getting one yet.
Kentetsu, that's where I've got mine mounted right now. Same location you moved yours to. It's where the sub-zero used to be I believe.
