Transmission Problems

Hey guys, I have a 84 SE and i am having some tranny problems. It started 6 months ago when i noticed my clutch wasent working and the only way to drive the car was to rev match when switching gears and if you wanted to do first gear you would have to stop the car and turn engine off, then put it in first. Upon cranking the car over to start it up, it would pull the car and id give it gas and it would start up. I ended up switchjing a 84 GS transmission in and put the 84 GS throwout bearing in. It worked but made some noise that i bilived to be from the old throwout bearing. When car was in neutral with engine on, you could hear some ratteling noise, it was pretty loud. It would dissapear when the clutch was pushed in though. I drove it like that for 6 months untill it was warm when i could change the throwout bearing. About a week ago i noticed the clutch starting to get stuck half way and not behaving normal. Then a few day ago, it all the sudden stopped working just like the previous time. Same symptoms with having to rev match while driving and turn off car to get it into first. So i pulled the tranny again and put in a throwout bearing with 20k on it that i got for the 13b tranny when i got the 13b engine built. As far as i know the throwout bearigns are the same so they should be interchangeable. I put it all back together and i went to start it and it wouldent start. Sounds like you can hear the starter spining but it wont turn the engine over at all. It also appears the clutch issue wasent fixed as it is still getting stuck at the floor. It cant be the master or slvae cilinder as i replaced both last tranny swap. The starter is also only a year old so it should be ok. one wierd thing i noticed was that i found a piece of metal where the starter usually is, kinda inside. It looks like a pin that goes through a hole and stops somehting from falling out. Ill take a picture and post it when i get home from work. Im not sure whats wrong with it, Mabey another broken tranny? last time a differnet tranny solved the same problem. Any help would be appreciated as i cant seem to figure out why the tranny wasent working and now it wont start

Thanks,

Nathan

that spring is mounted behind the clutch fork, which secures the fork to the all on the tranny. without it, it will wobble and sooner or later, it may get separated from the release or throw-out bearing
