My car is making a disturbing gurgle grunting sound such as the one heard on the wrx engine (sounds great on the wrx but not on my seven). The thing is that it only does it in on second gear, is the transmission going out? If so - I'm thinking it would just be better to pull it out and swap in another one from a junked seven. I've heard of people swapping in GSL-SE 13b tranny's into the GSL 12a of which I have (1985). Could somone give me some feedback as far as installation and power gains (if any) are concerned?

 

its either bearing or gear noise, regardless its time for a rebuild......getting a used junkyard tranny will more than likely make noise also since its old too.... if you like your car and want too keep it, a good rebuild is the way to go!!
the only difference on a se tranny is a taller 5th gear and a vent in the bellhousing,,,, whoopty dooo!

 

How much is a tranny rebuild?????
