transmission noise
I was at my first autox last weekend and my car was running great until I noticed a sound in my tranny. It seemed to only make the noise when I was turnin left and was accelerating (sweeper). The sound was a groul It sounded like something was rubbing on something and I have never heard it before and I havn't heard it since. It did it only after the car had been through many runs. I have an 84 gsl-se. I think my throughout bearing is bad, but I don't know if this is causing the sound.

hmmm,
Throwout bearing is only being used when you have the clutch pedal depressed (it pushes on the fingers of the pressure plate). When you are not using the clutch, it is not turning. If the sound could have been coming from the back and to the side, I would suspect a axle bearing which would make a growl. If you think it was definantly coming from the transmission area, you may want to check your U-joints. Also think about something rubbing on the driveshaft in the tunnel area. Since you were (hopefully) running it hard, you may also want to check the transmission mount. If it broke it may allow the transmission to move enough to make contact when under load.

I was running it very hard and my brother ,who is my passenger, said my shifter was moving from second to like reverse. How hard are the shifter mounts to get to.

I have that EXACT same problem, when i floor it in first, the shifter goes over to the position of 3rd and makes that growling sound, i talked to someone about it, they said to check my driver's side motor mount... but mine does it everytime i floor it.

There is no "shifter mount" per sey, just the transmission mount. It is not hard to find and not too hard to replace. If one of the 3 mounts is broken it will allow the engine/tranmission assembly to move and possibly break others. You don't neccesarily have to replace all 3, but they all should be checked. They are: the 2 round engine mounts in the front, and the transmission mount toward the back of the tranny. If the assembly is "moving" around, the driveshaft may be contacting the "tunnel" or heat shields. Also the case of the tranny may simply come into contact with the body and tranfer the vibration and make noise. Since you are seeing excess movement in the "shifter", and you report the noise under power, that's my guess.

speaking of motor/trans mounts.... where can i get some poly ones... or something like that, because my **** torques like no other, i'm pretty sure that my motor mounts are broken.
also, how easy are they to replace relative to say... a 1970 Chevelle?
