Transmission Fork Question

The transmission forks on my '79 are worn beyond specs. I was able to find a new fork for 1-2 but not for 3/4. The forks for '79, '80 cars use a set screw. The later are pinned. Is there any other difference?

The later model forks are available. I was considering using a newer fork and drilling it out to make room for the set screw. Is there any reason why this will not work?

It may be possible, but the shift forks may be a bit different,, but Im not sure. I know that the shift rod ends have slightly different dimensions than the transmissions that use the screws.

Side note: I have taken SA transmissions apart that had the screws rather than the roll pins, I have always wondered why some SAs had pins and some had screws?? Maybe someone can chime in that will know more.

I think the better solution would be to have a welder add metal to the old shift forks and then carefully file them down to spec.

BTW, where did you find the 1-2 shift fork?
