Unhappy trailing timing problem

It seems that if I put my trailing back to 20 degrees ATDC (stock mark), it idles low and makes a clang sound when I press on the gas quickly from idle..I will NEVER do that again. Runs perfect at the leading mark (5 degrees ATDC). Whats going on?????

Verify correct routing of all wires. Make sure that T1 is actually going to T1 and not T2, etc. Make sure that the leading ignitor is actually firing the leading coil, etc.

Things like this usually come down to something being moved and forgotten about. Happened to me last year.

inspected pickup points under cap of dizzy and cleaned them a bit..havne't tried to retime it again. I just dont want that horrid sound again. Its like a clang that says, "your motor will break if you do that again".

Any other possibilities before I try again?
