TPS Question. Will an S4 TPS work on an 85 GSL-SE

Pretty well what the title is asking.

My buddy needs a Tps for his 85 Gsl-Se and I have a couple S4 Tps's that are just sitting here.
Mazdatrix says a different part number, but sometimes it is just because of the bracket.
If anyone has the info,Please reply.
Thanks Guys.I want this guy to be able to make the Car meet coming up.

I have an s4 tps on my SE right now. I checked resistance on a bunch of them and found the one closest to 1ohm on one side and 5 ohm on the other side.

I think the one I ended up using was an s4 tps with about .5 ohm one one side and 4.5 on the other side.

the s4 tps is similar /same unit used on 12at and gsl-se

brackets are different .. s5 uses two of the same senders wired to a common plug
( colours on wires change but each unit has same sweep and resistance )

IIRC the 12at and GSL-SE operate theirs ( and AFM ) on a 12v circuit .. the s4/5 is a 5v system

I'm in the same position, as I have a flat spot on mine just off idle. They look identical other than the bracket. However, I checked the resistance on my SE TPS and I'm getting .10k-7.40k ohms and on the S4 TPS I just picked up for the local junkyard I'm reading .20k-4.50k ohms. I suppose it will work as a band-aid, but it won't operate to the full spectrum the SE one is suppose to operate... won't perform well at WOT.

So,is is OK to put the S4 Tps(which would normally see 1-5 Volts) on a GSL-SE which you say sees 12?

or does it still operate as 1-5 volts for the Tps.

s4 tps spec is 1k ohms at idle to 5 k ohms at WOT .. +/- 1 K ohms
( measured between the green /red ( A ) and black/red ( B ) wires on the s4 tps )
( note if you was to measure between the other points you get the other end of the scale.. I.E 5K at idle and 1 K ohms at WOT .. the numbers and points i use are lifted from the FSM as distinct from the "voltage" method of setting the TPS as found on some threads on this website )

12at unit i have here is 0.2 k minimum stroke ( pushed in ) and 4.8 K at WOT ( will go further if removed from TB )

i expect the GSLE-SE unit that returned 7 K is either off the TB,, and wont see this full sweep while bolted up
or it has accrued additional resistance through corrosion or damage to the wiring pigtail or through a dirty reo-stat
( not likely in this situ seeing the minimum resistance )

all the early ECUs ( up to and including s4 ) use the TPS only for an idle switch
so if there is no dead short , and no open circuit mid sweep then the switch will work fine as long as it can be set to 1 K ohms between points A and B whilst in the idle position

the 12V and 5 V thing is irrelevant in this context ,, each ecu set up to have its own appropriate threshold returned voltage for the TPS
