tires for gsl-se

upon completing my gsl-se project this coming week, i am feeling the need to put new tires on it. the plates expired in 2001, so i know the tires are bad. actually, they are bald. at any rate, i have a connection to where i get firestone/bridgestone tires at cost. what are some ideas on a good and or better tire for the se? it doesn't have to be firestone or bridgestone. perhaps a wider tire or one that will improve handling with better grip. any suggestons would really be appreciated. for note, i am using the stock rims. -dave

free shipping. for a little over 200 you can have some REALLY grippy tires shipped to your house. i think that wear down quick though, but hey, $200, you cant beat that...

also, look for the sumitomo htr 200's. im on my second set of them. they are cheap, and sticky when heated. i love them, and i know alot of people run those as well. my next set is definately going to be azenies though

I'm also using the AVS ES 100's. Grip great in dry and wet, but suck ***** in snow.

azenis, 195?...no no. good tires for like auto crossing, but not wide enough for off the line grip. that also depends on the power your putting out, gotta have that LSD too.

he said a tire for better handleing and grip. theres not a huge difference between a 195 and a 205, and for whats lost in the 195, im sure they make up in that grippy *** rubber.

im trying not to joke on you because of your monster mod list, but your really sounding like a dumbass. not everyone is into straight line... and yea, you can stuff 225s in the rear, but forget about rotating tires because that **** is NOT fitting up front.

and azenies for civic? wtf? how, why? have you ever been in a car with azenies. my friend rode me in his miata with **** tires, then with azenies, and they were narrower, and it was night and day difference. i have a feeling youve never used them

i do want perhaps a little wider. i wil not be driving it in the winter so i guess i am not too concerned about that. i would like a bit more cornering ability. off the line isn't hugly important because i will not be drag racing this car. i have a small list of mods which include: mazdatrix's dual pipe system for the se(racing beats does not open the 5th and 6th ports), a k/n filter, and rear polyurethane bushings. cost is not too important. i can afford a ood set of tires. i do not want low profile, this is not a low rider, lol. seriously, i value your opinions and thank you for the responses thus far. -dave

not driven in a car with azenis? my miata has azenis, and my bestfriend has a hatch with azenis, and my other friend has a type r with azenis... i autocross the miata, but to tell you the truth 14 inch azenis with 195 wont hold much power when stepping on the gas around a turn. thats why they are so good for underpowered cars. if he doesnt plan on doing anything major to the rx-7 they should do fine.

The general consensus is that anything bigger than 205 will not fit in the front without rubbing. So no, 225s will not fit stock.

I'm currently running Dunlop Sport A2s, and frankly, they suck. I've always been looking for a good sticky tire in 205/60 14 size. Seems like there's NOTHING, but I have thought about Falkens in 195. Is there a big difference between 195 and 205? Seems like one of the big points of the GSL-SE was it has a wider footprint! I have no plans to drive the 7 in snow, but it does rain often. I'll probably end up with Yokos for 60 a pop.

put it this way...

i ran 205/60/13's with the sumitomo htr 200's for almost a year. i learned to autox/drift/drag on those tires. i loved them. when it came time for a new set (because of my harsh driving on them), they didnt carry 205's anymore. i heard, even though i didnt understand, that 195's wouldnt handle better one the stock gs rim (i know your running a se), so i gave it a shot. it actually handled a little better. im not saying 205's are ****, because i would love to go back, but they arent bad at all, i mean, i even noticed an improvement, and some of the other guys on here will agree.

now the falkens.. they are a sticky tire to begin with. i think at $56 a peice, for a pretty much street/race tire, you wont be dissappointed, but thats just me. im not trying to push azenies on you, but i do think they would be worth it.

and yea, you cant fit anything bigger than 205's in the front. i tried 215's but there was no way in hell. i can barely fit my finger between the spring and the tire when i had my 205's. ive read that some people have run 215's with a se setup, but i just didnt see it happening.. at all..

195s handle better than 205 eh....

interesting

More nimble perhaps, as there is less tire on the road? Somebody know the science behind it?

one would figure it would have to do with a softer compound in the smaller width tire. the wider tire may require a harder compound to maintain reliabliity and road adhearsion. just my stab in the dark.

wider is better. more compact patch. the compound of the tire has alot to do with it also but 195's look ( imo) too skinny for the FB. thats why i use mickey thompsons in the rear and some comp t\a's in the front
