I keep reading recommendations about these wheels, but tirerack says the offset is 17 mm, don't we need about 38??? Won't that pull the wheels REALLY far inside the fenders and maybe even hit the springs?

nope. 12a offset is about 20. 17 sounds pretty close to 20.

17mm sounds about right for a car without the SE suspension. Less positive off set means less backspacing.
I am running some spacer/adpaters that are 1.25" thick with 6.5" wide rims with +35mm offset and they fit pretty good.

So if I took off the spacers the 17m offset sounds about right.

so 17mm offset would put the wheels about the same place in the wheel wells as yours? I hope so because you're looks AWESOME, that's exactly how I want the wheels to sit
