tire sizes for 1st gen

What's the biggest size tire that will fit on a 1st gen? I ran across one in a yard that had 205/60R13s on it. I'd like to get some thing a bit wider.

The general concensus is that 205's are the widest tire that will fit on a stock car without rubbing. Another thing is that you're gonna have a real hard time finding 13" meats that are wider than that. I'm currently in the market for new tires, and I'm trying to decide between 185/60R13 Yokohama AVS Intermediates, and 195/60R13 Sumitomo HTR-200's, if that helps

I currently use 205/60R13s and get some slight rubbing at extreme lock. They're Yoko A509s

im gonna go 15's when i get new rims just so i can get better tire choices unless you know anyplace that has some decent 13's online?

Gamble: Currently, the Tire Rack has Yokohama AVS Intermediate (UHP) 185/60R13's on sale for 38 a tire. I'll be getting a set of those within a couple weeks.

I'm running 205/50/15s up front and 225/50/15s out back. When this combo was on the '80, I had to roll the fender-lips in the back, not at the front and that was even with cut springs up front. When I put the same rims and tires on to my current '84, I had to roll all the lips but it's now cured of rubbing...

I'm running Sumitomo HTR-200's in 205/60/13. These tires stick well BUT if I was to do it again I would try to get 195/60/13's instead. The stock rims are a bit narrow and when mounted up with 205's the tires have too much side wall flex for my taste. My next set of tires will be on 15" rims.

noticed that no one is running 14s? I know that on mine at the moment i got 195/65/14, not a bad size but my new set will be 205s for sure, in the 14inch range I do have a lot of choices. Haven't checked for 13s though.

when i get new wheels im going 14s or 15's just for better tire choices. you can get the new yoko es100's for 80 a pop i think at tirerack in 205/50r14's and from what i hear they are awesome tires.
add wheels and tires to my list doh.

I can vouch for the AVS. Had those on my series V in 205/60/15 and they were sticky as glue, plus good in the rain despite what tirerack may say.

noticed that too since I've been back...

But I'm interested in the topic since only a very limited selection is available in 205/60/13 which is my size.

same here, except my suspension might be a little bent. cause i get a very light rubbing on the drivers side front. nothing a couple of washers couldnt take care of.

Hmmm, I'm definitely going to get some of those AVS's then, if only I had the money now !

I've had the AVS ES100's on my car for 2 days so far and love them. 16's have a much stiffer sidewall than the 14s, but these stick much beter and don't squeal much at all...

I have abunch of first gens, the biggest tire / wheel combo i have gotten to fit without rubbing is 17"x 8" all around with 215/40/17.... i have a pic on my website under our cars, the red one...@www.rotaryshack.com ..... my street class car has 15x9 rear with a tire size of 275x50/15 .... those stick out 3" and would rub but i limit the suspension travel....I also had to get those wheels drilled to fit the early type bolt pattern....My latest wheel projects include upgrading my red car with 19" wheels , but i need to but coilovers for the front to clear the wheel/tire at the top.... and i got a set of the convertable BBS mesh, i'm trying to get those redrilled,,,,,lots of money but i love my mazdas!!!!!!!!!!!!
