Tips on storing a first gen?
When I go off to college this fall, my rex is going into storage, and i have absolutely no clue how to go about it. First, what are some things i should do to the car before i put it away? Second, what kind of a storage facility should I look for, ideally? Any tips or experiences you can share along thses lines would be great. Thanks.

How long is the car going to be in storage? The basics: pour some MMO (or whatever you prefer). Change oil, remove battery, and cover up any holes where rodents may find their way into (especially intake).
As far as storage goes, old mines are popular around here becasue they are cheap. I've heard of a lot of problems with cars being broken into though. Best bet is the old lady down the street with a garage but no car. Cheap, safe, and close by.

Well I have had sucess storing mine this way...
A car should be stored with the gas tank either empty or full. I sugest empty.
1.) Drive it to the Warehouse,
2.) Do oil change, its bad to store any car with dirty motor oil, full of acids
3.) Add feul Stabelizer to gas (fallow directions on the bottle
4.) Get some engin storage spray and use it as per the directions, or dump new motor oil down the card untill the car stalls
5.) Remove the battery and store in a cool place ~ 50 Deg F on wood, Cement will drain the battery
6.) Set the TIRES on wood, The car is not on blocks!! but the wheels sit on blocks of wood, this helps with tire flat spoting. It is very bad for the suspension to hang for long period of time which is what ould happen if you put the car up on cement blocks
7.) Cover it
I alos wash mine the day I put it away. If you are in a cold climate make sure you have non freeezing fluids in the washer tanks and the lines.
Also once it goes into storage Leave it there untill you are ready to take it out for the season. It has worked for me.
Also I take old J-Cloths and put moth ***** in them and close them up with eleastics, and put them in side the car with baitless mouse traps.
About 3 weeks before you are ready to take the car out go take the mothballs out and open the windows, sunroof and hatch to start the airing out process. Mine is completely aired outt in a month or so
I am sure some one will point out all my mistakes
Good luck

I've always been told to store the car with a completely full gas tank, to prevent moisture from rusting the bottom of the tank. If there's gas in the tank, the air inside can't condense into moisture when temperature changes occur.
*edit*
Also, depending on how long it's sitting for, drain the gas and change it if the car sits for more than about 6 months...

Something to consider...
If your storage area has excessive moisture or the vehicle will be going through temperature/humidity variations, think about placing desiccants in several places inside your car to keep things from corroding and to help avoid getting that musty smell. I'd place them in plastic tubs to eliminate contact with fabrics and such. Here are some examples of desiccant uses:

I'm not sure about costs and quantities needed, but I have a car that I stored for a winter and I wished that I'd tried this to minimize condensation, which sped metallic surface corrosion and led to that nasty, old car smell.
