Question Timing,Please help

Did a search and while I'm sure the answer is in one of the threads I can't seem to find it. I tried to set the timing by the book. If I am looking from the front of the car I think the mark on the left is the leading and the mark on the right trailing. I put them both on the mark according to the book and I lose major power. If anyone can help and give a how to on this I would be very appricative. Thanks in advance.

If looking from the front of the car, the leading is first (right) then trailing. The engine rotates clockwise as you look at it from the front. If the paint marks are still there, the yellow is leading and the red is trailing.

usually the marks are two seperate colors, white for leading orange for trailing, but the leading mark comes around first so direction of rotation being clockwise the leading mark is on the right.

When I set the timing for the leading should I connect the timing light to L1?
Should then connect the timing light to T1 for the trailing? And where is the adjustment for the trailing?

you are correct about the wires. the trailing adjustment is on the vaccume advance diaphram. it is adjusted by loosening the two screws and moving the diaphram. be careful when you adjust this. it is VERY touchy!
