Timing Light mystery
Ok.... I know how to set timing and have done it many times before but I just dropped in a new motor and have some wierd stuff going on.
I can clip the timming light onto every wire except L1 and it will flash. When it's clipped to the L1 wire in any position (next to the plug or next to the coil) it wont flash. I pulled the L1 wire and checked for spark and it's there. Car runs fine. The timing gun just wont blink clipped to L1 any idea why? Spark low? Defective 2nd gen coil pack?
I even used a new ignition wire for L1 to see if that would make a differnce... L2 off the same coil pack causes the light to blink fine.....
Needless to say I cant set timing till I get passed this.
Thanks in advance.

bliffle... No problem with timing on my old 12a using the same dizzy cap and rotor. Would the cap and rotor have an impact on L1 when running 2GCDIFS?
lwnslw... going to change out the plug when I get home.

lwnslw... 100% on point. Something was wrong with that plug. Nothing visualy wrong with the plug however just by switching the plug the timing light worked and the idle improved.
biffle using the 2nd gen coil in my opinion has gone beyond the experimental at this point and was one of the best bangs for the buck.
Took my 1st rebuild out for its first long spin 30 miles.... That street port feels shweeeeet... but still granny shifting... 1K break-in and my blowthrough goes on.... more to come on that later..

I spent all day troubleshooting my car trying to get the timing to take. I undid everything and then re-installed it again about 3 times before I tried the plugs. To top it off the plugs were brand new BUT bad from the autoparts store...
