Timing With ECU????

Right ive got an 85 gen 1 with a 12a on carbs. Im planning to fit throttle bodys and full managment. But me and my boss are getting a bit stuck because we've never done this to a rx7 but done it to lot of other engines as we are a race engine builders. (www.catcams.co.uk) What do i do about getting the plugs to firing at the right time? is there a timed delay or an angle Any help would be great.

If you are doing full engine management, the easiest option is to pick up a crank angle sensor (CAS) from a 2nd gen RX-7 ('86-'91) (they are all 13b engines, but that doesn't matter). Also, pick up the leading and trailing coil packs from the 2nd gen as well. The CAS will replace the distributor and should be compatible to input into your ECU.

The trailing gets a little tricky. The trailing packs are connected together, but are really two separate coils. There is a separate input wire called the "Select" which tells the pack to fire trailing coil #1 or #2.

Your best bet is probably to check out the Engine Management section on here to see what you need to do base on what engine management unit you are running (Haltech, Microtech, etc.).

Can't say that I have. Perhaps it is similar enough to one of the other systems that you can adapt the information for your purposes.

Good luck.

+1.
The 2nd gen CAS drops right in place of the distributor and will give you a clean install with direct fire ignition on all 4 plugs. The CAS will eliminate the cap and rotor and will move spark advancing duties to the ECU.
The leading plugs on both rotors can fire simultaneously in a wasted spark fashion, like many other coil pack eqquiped cars. The trailing,as Addict said, have to be seperated and fired independantly.
But for just getting her running and checked out,you can fire up the leading only and that will be enough. The trailing (top) plugs on a rotary are mainly just for smog cleanup and to improve economy.....they have a minimal effect on power output.
