throttle lag ( i think ) where to look first?

ok its a new problem after replacing my alternator last week

when i push on the accelerator teh engine seems to cut out for a moment and then begins to accellerate.

whether i am in 1st gear off the line, or cruising in 3rd or 4th there is a pause in the acceleration, if i push fast enough i can actually stall the engine out.

is this "bogging out" ?

its obviously carberarator related but if i had an idea of what is going on thats giving the symptioms i describe it would be very helpful to me

Sounds like your accelerator pump isn't working very well.

wha?

accellerator pump? as in fuel pump?

as in the one that makes loud ticking noises by the fuel filter?

i thought of this and it does feel like when i push the pedal and which should open the throttle it does intuitively feel like it scutting the fuel off...

if it was shooting too much imagine it would still run just not well and theres no gas smell.

is this the same part?

are they expensive?

if i get one from teh wreckers should i be ok are is this an abosolutley never use used piece?

i thoughtit might also be teh fuel filter - but im still in credulous on that one

i have run teh tank down to near fumes twice now, and the last time someone suggested that i change the filter

its only 4000km old so i figured it couldnt have possbily gotten THAT dirty...

sigh

my cars getting old and i dont have the time space of money to restor e it so its jsut in a break fix maintenance cycle now

The fuel pump and accelerator pump are two different things. The accelerator pump is the diaphram on the side of the carb that gets pressed when you nail the throttle. It shoots a bit of gas in the carb to help with the change from cruising to accelerating. You definatly don't want to buy one from a junk yard. Go buy a carb rebuild kit. It will come with one. Hopefully someone can post a pic for you...

the same thing happened to me, and it turned out to be there was too much pressure in the fuel tank, reventing it fixed it. so maybe try driving with the gas cap off and see if that does anything
