Last summer I purchased a 1985 RX7 from a guys in New Hampshire. It ran ok..(a little rich for my taste ) but after taking it to be worked on (which for $350 they did absolutely NOTHING!!) on the way home it hit a bump and went completely dead! I haven't been able to start it since. It doesn't click or anything when you turn the key. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm not afraid to get under the hood and try something. Heck.. it's not running now so what more can I do to it!

Im assuming you checked you battery and terminals for corrosion/ conncection. After that I would check fusible links. I know they didnt do anything to your car but what did they BILL you for? That may give others an idea of what they could have losened or busted.

I had almost the exact same problem as that. I went over a bump and it died out. The problem turned out to be a grounding wire on my starter. If it doesn't click, it means your starter might not be getting power. Test the connections for power and try again. If it's not getting power then you'll have to start tracing the source. If it is getting power, whack the starter a couple times with a solid metal bar (to loosen and potentially stuck parts) and try again. If that doesnt work... go find a new starter. Keep in mind though that that may not be the cause of your problems. It's worth a check though.

 

Where in upstate NY do you live? I might be able to visit you and help you out if its not to far away. But First thing is to check battery cables, as if the ground cable came loose or off, your car will not run. One thing that might have happend after you let is sit, is the battery may be dead too. Check those out, and replace with cables that are the the same gauge, and are long enough (cheaper to make your own). I recommend using GOOD battery terminals, as I have gold plated ones and they're extremly customizable, and I had no problems with them.

 

A bad fusible link would keep the car from starting again, but wouldn't kill it on the road like that unless the alternator was also bad. I would start by checking the battery cables at both ends (battery and starter). Good luck!
