Well, just talk to my buddy who I got the carb from and he said that it was from a 83 GSL not from a 84 like he originally told me. Would this make a difference considering that when my car was upgraded it had a high flow fuel pump and a new nikki added to it. I cannot find out when car was worked on at Rotary Performance(www.rx7.com) until I can get hold of Bill whom I got the car from. His uncle supposebly had all docs for car but Bill misplaced them when they stored his belongings. I have another carb from a 84 besides mine that was on it i will try when it quits raining, Who rebuilds carbs reasonably on here? Hell the kit is only $25-$35 but most people want $200-$300 just to do it or plenty of money to upgrade it. Thanks for all the help and info, Gary

Wait, could it be that you need a FPR, that your fuel pump is putting out way to much PSI for the carb causing it to flood.

I had this problem too. Rebuilt the carb, got it all back together. Thing would fill up with gas. Sight glasses were way too full. Asked around, and floats were stuck. Tapped the top with a couple of sharp raps from a screwdriver and fixed. Often when rebuilt with new needle and seats, they will want to stick flooding it out. Also, regarding the vent solenoid it is a large brass plug looking piece with a single black wire with yellow stripe. if the connector is messed up, you can just pull the air horn off, and take off the plastic plunger inside. Easier said than done, but used a razor, screwdriver, etc to get it off. This basically makes the vent solenoid null and void. This was from Sterling, a guy on the board who knows his Nikkis. Also, if you want to try and rebuild the carb, to double check that it is good inside, not that hard. I used a Hygrade kit, a Haynes manual, and about two nights, first one, could do one now in about half the time. Not that hard, just follow dirrections, and good to go. Also, Sterling rebuild them to better than new for about 350.00

Cheers,
Travis

I Do not know, it could be. I did not have one on there for the carb that was on there when I got car. It ran great except for the few times it would flood. Having sit for over ayear only being driven several feet to check mail or started but never letting reach op temp, I figured maybe carb was going bad causing the flooding probs. After getting car started last month after having starter being rebuilt and new batt cables, letting car run until quit smoking about 45mins from all the ATF put in th carb, Itook it for a spin but everytime I pressed accel. it would bog down until I let up on gas and RPM's built up still not like it used too. I have had this car up to 120mph several times with no problem. I paid over $300 to have it looked at by supposably the best shop here and they could tell me anything. There is no one around here that works on a rotary or the carb even Mazda dealership. I usually have Jose in Shreveport work on minor stuff and take it to Rotary Performance for major stuff. But canot get it to run good enough to make the 120mile drive to Jose's. IF i sell it southernrunner has first dibs on it. Will try other carb later this week. Had a guy contact me about just rebuilt an 84 GLS carb and is putting on his car to make sure everything works and said I could have it for $75 shipped. Later,Gary

Well tomorrow is suppose to be sunny and if the Lord will give me the strength to take some pics of the engine and to switch carbs again to try to get it running. I drove the car almost everyday since JAN 05, went to California in it with no problems at all. HAs extra belts in Storage boxes. The only thing wrong in the interior is the pass storage lid is broken and a tear in the rear carpet. I have a set of blacl ABS plastic louvers that I have and never put on. It has AC but power steering pulley was broken when I got it, still has the pump on it, I was going to remove it along with the rats nest if I went with the RB carb or supercharged it like the 85 but my injuris have taken alot out of me. I leave the apt maybe twicw aweek and that is to pick up my 5yo to come stay with me during the school week. I am looking for$1500-$2000. There is a guy here in town that has an 85 GLS-SE with a 13B but his body is not nice and wants to swap his motor into it but I told him forum members have first crack.

Here are some pics of engine bay have not had the chance to clean it up, the rear bumper piece and louvers, Have people interested in louvers by themselves. Have a carb coming in next week. Southernrunner will have first crack at buying car if I sell it. Would like it to be running with no problems before I sell it. Thanks,Gary

I live south of Shreveport. If you bring me the carb and a kit (@30.00) I can rebuild it , test it, and have you on the way in less than 4 hours. No charge. Give me a ring. Will have to be on a weekend. 318-925-5232. Just hate to see you give up.

That looks like a Mitsu Starion/Conquest in that picture next to your RX, I have a soft spot for those I almost bought a Starion with 40 thou on the clock but the guy wanted too much. You like?

I'm guessing the Mitsu because of the TSI badge?

No it is an 88 Conquest that I got a few months ago, 52k original, auto trans which is why I got it because of injury to left leg, am currently redoing motor, interior then paint. I have a 89 Mitsu Starion, Figi blue in storage with on 20k, bought it brand new in Nov 88, How much did the guy want for his?
