Testing wiper motor

Ok. I've just got my 4th windshield wiper motor and I'm starting to think I'm testing them wrong. I cant test them on the car due to the car being in pieces, so I've been bench testing them with a car battery. The battery was tested and I even used another good battery just in case. My test leads were also tested and are working properly and once again I used a second set just to be on the safe side. My method is - wire to the single black wire and + wire to any one of the 4 pins on the other plug. Is this right or am I missing something? Am I just having really bad luck with wiper motors? If so then I'm going to have to have a few words with the ebay seller that claimed the motor worked. Thanks for any help.

have you tested for 12V at the wiper motor connector with the ignition in the on position with the wiper switch activated? this will ensure the wiper motor is getting 12V and can rule out faulty motors. often times people mistake a frozen wiper rack for a faulty wiper motor. a frozen rack can lead to a blown fuse and electrical issues if you are continually trying to use the wipers with a frozen rack.

if you are getting power to the motor, hook it up to the connector without the rack and see if it works on all speeds.

Sounds like you are testing it incorrectly. Download the FSM and wiring diagrams from one of these two sites. They will make life easier.

Thanks for that. My service manual wouldn't load for some reason. The motor tested good. I even retested all my others and they were bad. Now I have working wipers for the first time. lol.
