I actually just re-read the site. They seem to have changed it. Now it's talking about how BMW and a few other automakers got together to develop a gas standard, and what stations meet the standard and how all 3 grades of gas at the station need to pass for the station to recieve the seal of approval(to be displayed on the pumps in the near future). The site USED to be a site that tested each gas station and ranked them on a scale of best to worst and if you clicked each station it gave specific information. I might be thinking of another site but I thought it was top tier... I don't know, I'll look for you a little more.

well got my first set of Shell numbers, but are a little off my regular driving habits as I went down to the drag strip and did about 10 runs or so and was using my race map down there which is more gas. But anyways here are the numbers:

45.662L Neted 272km

so that 16.79L/100km

or for you US guys

14.01 MPG

Like I said these numbers shouldn't be used to reflect on the rest of the test, but I decided to post it anyhow. Also now that my clutch is pretty much done for it (if I try to gun it, it slips pretty bad), thats a bit of gas wastage right there. My new clutch should be in sometime early next week though.

Holy **** you get horrible fuel mileage. Even in the city with me stomping on it ALL the time I average more than 400KM/tank. And that was when I had it running pig rich too.

i have a stockport 13b with a rb testpipe... i swear it gets horrible mileage on the street, but when i'm on freeway its like 25? wth?

Info on Sterling carb:

On the way down to DGRR I got an average of 18 mpg. That was over like, 8 or 9 hundred miles.

On the way home, we averaged 21 mpg.

The only change that was made was Orion swapped in some larger jets on the primaries for me (much larger). It makes tons more power now, but I never expected an increase in economy as well. Very strange, but I ain't complaining...

Yes, stock ports.... I was very surprised that I got that kind of mileage. When I'm playing around, I think I get like 6 mpg.

booo don't whine about mileage. The 13B-PP gets 5 miles per gallon and that would be lucky to get that. However this is a good test. Keep up the good work. I'm on my last tank of 87 and going to be moving onto some Chevron 94 and lock the timing for racing.

Having more power across the whole rpm range should net you better fuel mileage as the engine is more efficient and doesn't require as much energy to get you going to speed and holding it at that speed. I can easily get about 30 mpg on the highway though if I wanted too ... and thats probably why it seems like my gas mileage isn't as bad going to the track, because the trip to and back made up about 80km of that and thats almost at highway speeds. (~55mph)

I'm kind of shocked that your mileage improved Kentetsu. I meant to tell you you should swap back to the stock jets you had in there for the trip home. At primary throttle cruise with the .053's I gave you it should be running richer. Alot richer. Strange. Of course I don't remember what your airbleeds were so it may have been leaning out more than I expected. Nice to see it improved though. Make sure you note that in your logbook.

Alright time for my second set of EGT's from Shell

3000 rpm - 1500*F
4000 rpm - 1700*F

Was bit colder day than before (overcast as oppose to sunny), so I'm sure that made up for a bit of a difference. Also should have my second set of fuel economy numbers tomorrow when I fill up.

Alrighty, some more Shell numbers. The first set is my regular type of driving. the second set, I had to go to a fellow rotorhead's (immanuel_7 aka Martin) wedding out in the country so a bit of highway driving on that. I had hooked up with martin some 5 years back now or so giving him a drive shaft for his car, and since then had become good friends and asked me to be one of his grooms men. What a great rotary commity we are here. I know he's not that active on the board here but I guess I do the searching for the both of us most of the times.

Also now I've changed my clutch so I don't know if that affects anything or not but it was only in the second set. Also pulled out the plugs and look like they could be due for a new set soon. I'll make sure to post that with my other results when I change things.


First set: (Regular Driving)

40.083L Neted 293km

so that 13.68L/100km

or for you US guys

17.19 MPG

Thats a decent gain I think, but we'll need another one to verify a gain again with the same driving style.

Second set: (A bit of highway)

34.805L Neted 300km

so that 11.60L/100km

or for you US guys

20.28 MPG

Just a quick note on the EGT.
When you are taking your EGT readings in the header, hotter for fuel does not necessarily indicate better performance. More then likely it is actually burning SLOWER resulting in more combustion in the header. This is much like a engine with an excessively lean mixture that results in high EGTs.

Just a quick followup on the Sterling mileage. I totalled up all of my receipts, and for the entire trip back from Chattanooga (878 miles) I averaged 22.55 mpg

My usual drive to work involves a lot of horsing around (back country roads) and high speed takeoffs from stop signs. I used to average about 12 mpg, but now I'm getting closer to 17.

All of this daily driving data (not the long trip) was collected while using gas from BP (pretty much all I use). I'm going to switch over to Shell for a couple of weeks and see if there's any fluctuations in economy or performance.

Wow, I've never heard of any of these gas stations you guys are talking about, well except for shell. I usually fill up at holiday, but I'm going to be on the lookout for a shell around here now.

Sorry that I haven't kept up much with this I did quite a few changes and that why I didn't post anything for a while. Some of the changes include:

New Spark Plugs (Leading and trailing about 2 months old now)
Change in my fuel map for my economy files on the Megasquirt
After collector piece is not neatly welded as oppose to the MIG welded junk I had
Cracked welds on header rewelded

It'll start up with my trip to the states (~6500km : 4040 miles) over the whole trip I averaged about 26MPG I think thats pretty decent including the race day at road atlanta, and all the stop go traffic in Miami for 3 days.

Also I just have another one from tonight. This is form Sunoco still, I'll be going to Flying J at the next stop.
