tell me about seafoam
 

im hearing all this talk about seafoam lately, and was thinking i should grab some up but haven't heard too many people talking about it, so speak up!

i've got this motor i just instaled, 160,000 kms, and the rear rotor seems a little weak, but anyways i just got it running after sitting 3 years :).

thinking i should maybe grab up this stuff? oh, is sea foam the brand name? or....anybody seen it in canada?. oh, and what can it do that MMO doesn't. it is similar? do you add it to your gas too?

here ya go and im sure u looked at the latest thread about seafoam "another satisfied seafoam user.."

SeaFoam is the name of the product. its in a white can. never bought it myself but always have read good reviews. also not sure if its liquid like/ gas like im not sure. just saw it at my local parts store. if you cant find it you can probably order it online

Just dump a full can into 1/8 tank of gas and run the hell out of her. Within a few miles you will feel the power return as the apex seals are freed up (at least in my experience).

Don't add it to the oil unless you are prepared to change it right away. I don't use a vacuum line to add it either, just add to gas.

Seafoam works wonders..most Napa Auto Part Stores carry it..that is the brand name and appears on the can..the can is white, with a white screw top..it looks like most fuel cleaners..basically a clear liquid..I added to my gas and oil..I went a week before changing my oil..
here are my results:
less smoking at startup
recovered some horsies
and after changing the oil the Royal Purple still had it's purple color
so I was pretty clean to begin with
plugs and fuel filter are next
tho I used 1/2 a can for the oil and 1/2 for the gas
so I could probably run some more in the gas prior to the plug and filter change
haven't used MMO (im in an SE) but Seafoam truly works

For rotaries, does having the intake suck it in damage up the catalytics?

Sucking it in through a vacuum line is really just for piston engines. You have no valves to clean, so there would be no point. Just add to the gas and you'll be happy...

hmmm... i ran some seafoam thru my t2 thru the manifold and thru the tank..worked wonders...we dont have any valves to clean but we still have lots of crap on our seals and our intake manifolds...i noticed a great deal more response and smoother idling...also used it on my 84 kawasaki...worked great!

For a really good quick engine clean, run about 1/2 can of Seafoam through a vacuum hose, or pour it down the primary barrels, killing the engine. Put the other 1/2 can in the tank and let it sit overnight.

as for mmo, to my knowledge it is still unavailable in Canada, seafoam can be found at like partsource, auto value. napa might even have it but ive never seen it at the one near me.

Honestly I ran it in my old bmw and s13 and didn't notice a difference. The bmw had over 200K on it and put out a lot of smoke and all but didn't really notice any difference. The S13 had 160k on the clock and it was a pile of shit, but never broke down and got me from A to B. I used it on that and it also put out a lot of smoke but I didn't really notice a difference (It never passed smog and still wouldn't lol) On both cars I ran the seafoam per the can's instructions 1/3 gas tabnk, 1/3 vacuum, 1/3 crank. And the next day changed the oil, plugs and 02 sensors.....honestly I believe it did clean out my engines but it didn't make a huge difference like most people claim...might just be me? Haven't run it through my 7 yet.

Pistons are way different from rotaries. 12A's love the stuff.

I made the mistake of leaving it in the oil in my Integra for the length of a full oil cycle. The car has started knocking over the last few weeks, and I'm not sure if its related. I changed the oil and it helped a bit, so there is a good possibility. Don't put it in the oil and leave it! Do it just before you change your oil.

Don't put it in your oil. Put it in your gas tank. Rotarys are special, and they love a monthly dose of seafoam if properly applied.

The more miles, the weaker the compression, the less efficient the burn, the greater the carbon buildup. That's my opinion anyway... :)

Guys so I should add the seafoam when the fuel level is very low in my tank ???

Gonna try that when I build the 12a engine I have laying around.

Im not sure how good it does for new engines (rebuilt) but before you take it out, add the seafoam to like 1/4 tank and go for a rip. Will make cleaning the parts alot easier.

fyi adding it thru the brake booster vacuum hose on the intake manifold isn't a great idea. seafoam is a solvent and does not play nice with the brake booster diaphragm. if any finds its way into the booster it'll eat it.

Besides agreeing with you're avatar completely, I had not heard of this before. I put it through my brake master in my Integra and nothing happened to it?:scratch: I don't see how it could get into the cylinder anyways because of the direction of the vacuum.

and yes vacuum goes the opposite direction. and there's a one way check valve. a solvent's a solvent and doesn't belong around the booster. better off spraying seafoam into intake with a spray bottle.

Or just use Amsoil Power Foam.
