Tech question?

My little dilema is that everytime i turn my 7 off a second later it backfires really loud.
I think its timing related but i have no idea how to set the timing on a carburator, this is my first carburated RX7.

My other thing is that the idling is always at 2000RPM, played a little bit with the carburator and got it to 1500RPM but then evrytime i stepped on the gas the car would lose power.

Anybody?
Thanks.

Working as intended on the backfiring.
Check if the floats are out of whack. Maybe gonna require a carb rebuild.

Mine used to do the same even with a 800 to 900 rpm idle when i had my weber on it. Its cause it was rich on the low end(and it liked to be) what i found fixed the problem was to let it idle for 10 to 15 seconds before shutting it off. See if that works for you.

First thing you have to do is get your idle at or below 1000RPM. There is too much unburned fuel along with compressed air when you shut your car off at a high RPM and you get a big backfire. A little backfire is normal.

Check for Vaccum leaks before anything you do.

Its all in the set up! Same thing happend with my RX3 on the stock carb, a holly and the twin webbers. It was an exhaust change over that stopped the backfire. Then I had to raise the revs a little before I turned it off to get it to bang.

Before that I learned to live with it, If I wanted to I'd prevent the bang by stalling the engine in first to kill it! (especially at 2 AM coming home from playing)

I have had a big bang blow open the muffler!
