targa top rx7

driving by a junkyard in a small town in central oregon, i glanced over and saw a targa top rx7, and i recently just bought an 85 gs, with no sunroof, and i was thinking it would be nice to make it a custom targa top, anyone have any idea's on how to do that?

What did the "targa" look like? Was it just a silver band across the back part of the roof? If so, it's factory rice. Not a real targa roof, just looks like one.. my car has it..

no, it was a targa top as in like a T-top without the middle peice, so the entire roof section came off like a really wide sunroof

Unibody cars rely on the roof as a stressed member to maintain structural rigidity.

Targa top

For what its worth, I read in some older issues of Rotary Rocket mag that there was a compnay in the early/mid 80's producing a custom conversion called the AVATAR. I think you coul dget it in eaither the convertible or targa models. Hope it helps. If it were me, I'd have been in there checking the thing out.

I'm not doubting what you saw, I'm merely stating that it's a bad idea and why. BTW, I was raised up around your way, in Joseph.
