tank repairs...(pics of cleaning process)

well as i posted in other threads i had a hole in my tank (rust ate through the spare tire well...and then through my gas tank) i also at the time have no interior...so no matt to cover the hatch area. so one day before i noticed this hole. i was headed to the mall...went by and got a full tank of gas and my bro went in and got a pack of cigs. well i decided to take this bad *** back road...full of curves. and i slamed on brakes and felt "water hit me" so i cranked my sun roof closed and kept going. then again after a hard brake i feel water...(also note i have my shirt off and its in the hatch area) well my bro goes to light up a cig. and a car comes out in front of me so i slam on brakes again,...this time the "water" (also know as gas squirting outa my tank) hits the lighter which is lit. long story short i was in a ditch with a very crispy shirt.

so i droped the tank and im cleaning it up now...about half done.

gona patch it up and think about recovering the top with something like a bed liner for a truck ( spray on type) any reason why i shouldnt?

well heres the tank after i pulled it outs the car.

here are the holes...

here is after a little cleaning (with grinder and buffer ) (ALL GAS WAS REMOVED AND SPRAYED WITH WATER BEFORE USING GRINDER)

and here it is almost done..

Put this in the FAQ section, Also buy the biggest bottle of DAWN and just dump it in in about a 6th, fill, fluch repeat until the dawn is empty, dont be a fool. I had to do this not once, but twice with the same tank, once I just had it dipped in the hot acid tank and a shop that does radiators and rebuilds starters and stuff. It ended up rusting so I sent it back and had them line it. If you had to drop you tank to clean it, get it lined and repair or your wasting time and money. I learned the hard way!!

PS the truckliner might be overkill, but if you wanna spend the money on it shoot. They just use a brush on rubber-type undercoating and it sticks and works great as can be. POR-15 is the stuff to line it with.

Thats an easy fix,, fill the tank with water and gas weld the holes, it'll take longer to grind the rest of the tank like you've done
