Talk me into / out of a Cat Replacement Pipe --PLEASE MOVE TO 1ST GEN

I'm a cheap bastard and really can't justify buying a full exhaust for my FB, so I have looked into cat replacement pipes. I'm lucky enough to not have to pass inspections so that is no issue.

I'm looking for what is the best bang for the buck exhaust mod for my 81 FB, currently it seems that the RB cat replacement pipe is the best bet. I'd be willing to spend a bit more money on a header + whatever else I would need, but the full RB exhaust is just too much money.

Please let me know how much noisier the car will be with the replacement pipe as this is somewhat a factor.

Also, will I have to do any additional tuning to to carbs for the car to handle the change in backpressure?

getting it custom made is cheaper at your local (professional) muffler shop.. or in this case, finding a welder to do the job is also good

i don't see why people look up so high on the RB muffler systems.. i think they're overrated

the reason why they're mellow and sound quieter is because of the resonator the exhuast gases passes through.. and closer inspection will reveal that RB piping is small

this is not a hearsay, btw

I have a cat replacement pipe to a power pulse muffler. Only slightly louder than stock and you actually wouldn't notice particulary until you floor it. It has a nice deep sound. Recommended.

aftermarket exhausts sell well in the classified section - too bad it won't fit my car.

Thats how my SE with the full racing beat system sounds.

and I think part of the reason the racing beat system is so popular is becase it lasts forever. My old monza muffler lasted about 2 weeks before it started getting loud, after 4 months I thought it would be quieter with out the muffler
