The center piece between the taillights on my RX-7 is cracked... and it bugs the hell out of me. I have been half-*** watching the classifieds for a replacement in good condition, but this weekend I had an idea! There are tons of machine shops around my work, and I have gotten to know several employees through work and play. I thought why not have my own "custom" center piece made? So a took some dimensions and drew it out on paper...
I was thinking of having a thin piece of aluminum machined to look like the original piece and have an "RX-7" design cut into it (similar to this: http://www.mazspeed.com/jeff14.jpg), and finish it off with some paint. Anybody ever done this before? Any thoughts/recommendations come to mind? I don't have a quote yet. I know it's not going to be cheap, but I think the potential cool factor may balance that out.
Ok I did it! Here goes the final product. May end up painting it some how some way... took some measurements and went to the machine shop. They cut the logo out on the CNC, although I am not sure exactly which machine they did the work on.
