Tail light conversions

I was looking a while back about tail light conversions and found a really good one but I don't remember where I saw it. I did a search but couldn't find anything. All I really remember is the new tail lights where from an Acura? Maybe Integra? I remember they were clear and there wasn't much work to do the mod. Anyone else see or heard of anything like it? Pictures?
Thanks

just so i dont look like a complete jackass. im sure you could take it to any other body shop that can do custom lights. where ever the other guys get their head light and tail light conversions done, im sure most body shops will do it, but i may be wrong...

not that i agree with this AT ALL..

Its actually impressive fab work. It's just sad to see after buying all that bondo, he could only afford $40.00 taillights, and a $99 wing.

malman_16 12-26-03 01:38 AM

hey...they do look ricer...but i see no one elese making any tail light conversions that look tight and do justice

ioTus 12-26-03 01:43 AM

wow, i can't believe you guys. stuff like this nearly makes me want to stop contributing to these boards.

I've been following this man's work for several years. He has come up with what is probably one of the worlds most original FB widebodies. He knows more about CUSTOMIZATION and BODY WORK than all of you COMBINED, i will GURANTEE that.

Perhaps you are talking about my custom clear tail light mod, which can be found on my cardomain site. It is not all that easy tho, i'd rate it 7 to 8 out of 10 difficulty factor, if you're not used to stuff like this.

IIRC, he also has a car domain page that shows the progression of his work. BTW, there is alot of bondo on that car.

I like the work done for the bodywork, but I think the clear taillights take away from the car. IMO the car looks excellent, it just needs a different set of taillights.

O 16581 72452 5 12-27-03 10:16 AM

Why are all these posts getting edited with a link to the rules? We're all entitled to our own opinion, i simply said his taste was bad in the car, but praised his bodywork.

onepointone 12-27-03 10:24 AM

:withstupi

ill admit, my first post was pointless and was rightfully edited.. but i dont see the need for the others

Rx7carl 12-27-03 11:13 AM

This thread was a plea for info, not opinions. If you read the rules guys, you'll see why I did it. I will NOT tolerate flaming, and I will stop it in its tracks. This is a perfect example of why I wrote specific rules. Yes you are entitles to your opinions of course. Spouting how lame you may think this car looks when the thread starter was merely looking for info about it isint helping or wanted. Feel like bashing this car? Make a lounge thread and bash away (Errors gonna kill me for that  ) We all have different tastes. Playing "rice", or "fashion" cop isint your job. I'm personally ashamed that you guys would do this. We're supposed to be a "club" "family". If you have even the ugliest POS 1st gen, you should be welcomed with open arms as a fellow borther/sister. Not criticized and flamed and made to fell unworthy, stupid, lame because your tastes differ from someone elses. Feel like being an elitist prick? Go elsewhere, as that isint welcomed here.

Directfreak 12-27-03 11:26 AM

Good Point.

Ooooh!!

Do I get to be an Elitist Prick?

PLEASE?

Pretty Please?!

I was just voicing my .02 into what ioTus said.

85rotarypower 12-27-03 11:50 AM

Rx7carl: I couldn't have said that better myself. I wish this would have been said a long time ago. I hate it when people flame other people on what their car looks like when they don't ask for an opinion. This goes back to the Purple Car. I have seen a few threads where newbies ask what body kit it has. All anyone says is this car is stupid. It looks like a ricer. Who cares. He/she just wants to know what body kit it is. Not to be told it is a rice car.

RotaryRevn 12-27-03 12:11 PM

Ok, I guess I can understand why you edited those as you do make some valid points but I still feel that letting people post their opinions on how something looks (especially if it hasn't been done to the car yet and they are thinking about it) leads to some great discussion and could prevent someone from making a costly fashion mistake on there car that they could regret later. Just looking out for the fellow rotor head. I think this is really true to those people new to the rotor game who do not yet realize how different and unique our cars our to the mainstream import scene. As they get to know more about the rotary and rotary culture, they probably will be drawn away from the general honda type atmosphere, but I may be wrong. If you have to edit this one to I apoligize and promise not to respond any further on this thread. I was just surprised to see that my thread had been edited, It was the first time it's happened to me ;)

85rotarypower 12-27-03 12:21 PM

If the person makes a fashion "mistake", then thats their own fault. I say, if the person doesn't ask for an opinion, don't give an opinion.

Wankeled 12-27-03 12:41 PM

What about "flattening out" the tail lights? You know the way it looks serrated from the sides....does anyone know how or where you could get it changed it so its one flat piece?

And did you feel violated?

ioTus 12-27-03 02:40 PM

Wankeled, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Do you have any pictures?

I'm also going to be working on anothre type of tail light, which will place 4 round tail lihgts (like from a truck) INSIDE the stock unit, w/ either a silver or black (or carbon fiber) surround. This would give you another style of euro tail lights. I pretty much know how i'm going to do it, but i have yet to actually start experimenting.

I'll let you know what i come up with (IF i decide to tear apart anothe rset of tail lights ;-)

mar3 12-27-03 02:55 PM

Wouldn't the crazy LED replacement bulbs from Manntis do the same thing or have the same effect?

True, but I wont tolerate attacks, nor hijacking to tell someone that what they like sucks when they didnt ask for opinions. Yes you may be wrong, I may be wrong as well. I just dont wanna see people turned off to this place cause they get picked on. Notice he hasnt been back on this thread, I wonder why? :(

I was thinking the same thing. Youd have to make new lenses. I'm thinking of some lexan from Lowes.

I think he means remove the outer lenses and use a flat cover out of clear/smoked plastic, like a late model 300zx. At least thats what I'm thinking of, cept I wanna make the lens one long piece for a cleaner look.

Truck lights are too tall ;) BTDT. Youd have to do some creative surgery to make it fit. I'm gonna stick with a style like what the late FC's have.

Nope, I have them, doesnt give the 4 seperate round light look.

That's exactly what I mean. Especially if it's one long piece like you suggested, that would look pretty sweet.

Rx7carl 12-27-03 08:05 PM

Lowes sells a piece of lexan that might be long enough. Not on my top 10 list right now though. :(

wtf?

why are all there edit links?

and btw.. THAT ONE IS SWEET FB

i wonder it will look like on a stock body FB.. with just a front spoiler.. side skirts.. no wide body..

and a roof scoop plus the wing..

i reckon it will look sweet

ioTus 12-28-03 11:34 AM

Well Carl (and btw i totally agree w/ what you did), i gave truck lights as an example, i'm not standing right next to my car w/ lights in hand, i just used that as an example for the round-style tail-lights.

Barwick 12-28-03 12:56 PM

Good God if that ever happens to another RX-7...

Sorry "RX-7Carl".... but... ugh.. I mean I'm not here to flame the kid, but more like save him the trouble. I almost got the windshield sticker and clear taillights on my Integra when I was younger, but thank GOD I didn't have the money, otherwise I'd have done it... ugh... I think we all do in our younger age if we don't have someone else to show us otherwise... I refer you to the "Should you get a Tattoo?" episode of Red vs. Blue:

Should you get a tattoo? Well that's a good question. To answer it, I must ask you a question...

Take your current age.
Now subtract ten years from it.
Were you smart back then?
Of course you weren't. You were a freaking idiot.
Fact of the matter is, you're just as big an idiot today, it's just gonna take you ten more years to realize it.
Now think if you had drawn a picture on your body ten years ago... would you be happy with it today?
Chances are, you wouldn't be.

Scroll down to "Public Service Announcement - Should you get a Tattoo"

O 16581 72452 5 12-28-03 02:20 PM

Honestly, if it had the taillights returned to stock, the car painted white or black (blacked out taillights if white) and the wing removed, i'd be alot more impressed with it. I personally think what he's done is decent aside from those two aspects. Altezzas just don't look like they belong on a sports car, rather sedans.

I think this kid should hear the bad comments we have to say, i used to be just like him until i was woken up by the negative things people had to say about my bad taste. Editing posts to leave the good comments and being rid of the bad certainly isn't the way to do this.

Ah, now we're getting somewhere. Your offereing up some suggestions. Something positive, while still stating your opinion which is fine. No flamming, no cheap shots. Taste is a matter of opinion. Remember that. Theres no law against bad taste cause no one is in a position to judge what is good and bad taste. Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one, and they all stink. SOmetimes its not just what you say, but HOW you say it. ;)

onepointone 12-28-03 05:11 PM

well... i see your point man, and i guess it was alot to do with me because i made the first reply with the":wtf1:". so, im sorry. i wont flame people as much, but on the flip side of it, some people need to be flamed. heaven forbid this thing shows up every week like the purple car (which i havent seen much of lately), then flaming should happen. but yea, your point is taken in.
