T2 Transmission install in the FB 1st Gen

I was looking for information and I noticed a lot of people are cutting and welding there shifter housings to make the T2 transmissions fit in the FB cars. Well after seeing all that work I figured I would come up with another way to achieve the same thing without welding...

I found that the 12a transmission has the correct length shifter housing and it will bolt onto the T2 Transmission. You will have to cut the tube and use make a gasket (permitex) on the end you cut to keep anything from leaking.

Cut the shifter fork off 60.60 mm from the shift leaver end and also re-drill the threaded hole and counter sink the hole so that the 12a bolt will hole the shifter seat.
Once you get the hole drilled and shift fork cut and cleaned up you can install it in the T2 tail housing and install the tail shaft back on the transmission.

When installing the shift housing you will have to use a rubber mallet and remember to install the shifter seat before you get the housing all the way on or you will have to pull it back off and do it again.

Once you get all the other 12a parts installed install you shifter and it should be exactly the same position as the 12a in the FB but now you have a T2 in your FB instead.

yep, this is the way i had done it as well as many others. the 12a rear shifter housing works great. i also just cut the tube and used some hose to hold it together instead of welding the tube back together.
