sychros making to much noise

When i got my car it had sat for probly a year....after checking everything i started it up and drove it around. When i shift into 2nd and 3 i can hear my synchros, they sound like a crotch rocket reving. I searched and found out a little about Penzoil Syncromesh...its supposed to help your synchros. so i wanna know where i can get it and if it really helps? thx

Might find it at Wal-Mart, they carry some Penzoil fluids. I prefer Valvoline myself. Years ago, Penzoil motor oil was bad about guming up engine internals due to it's high wax content, that's why I changed to Valvoline. Formulations have changeed a good deal since then. You might try flushing the tranny case, fill it with kerosene or diesel, take it for a short drive and drain. Some of the track guys have had good luck with a 50/50 mix of a quality, non -syn, MT-90 and ATF to quiet worn synchros.

Yeah, Trochoid already hit on my solution to this issue. I used to be heavy into 240Zs, and one of the books I picked up for modifying these cars for racing recommended a 50/50 mix of gear lube and ATF. This has worked well for every manual car that I've owned. The ATF has a lot of detergents in it that will clean all of the crud out of the synchros, and still has plenty of lubrication for the gears. I highly recommend this...
