No V-8 for Rx-7 yet, new project.
I thought the point of dropping in a V-8 into an Rx-7 was because of availability? HA! I've searched for 3 months now for an affordable 5spd transmission and have come up with nothing. The price of the 5.0 5spd is redicules, they're selling for $650-$850, so i've decided to put this project on hold until i can deal with it. Most likely around spring break i'll pick up a 5.0 LX 5spd as a donor car for a spring project with the Rx-7, it's just too cold to deal with an engine swap of this magnitude over the winter.
Insted i've purchased a new car for a small project. Something i can work on in class. Here it is.

whats the project going to be and why the 5.0?? trannys are hard to get for that car, plus you should get a 350 parts are easier to come by and the old higher compression ones put out more HP than the 5.0 go 5.7 !!

What do you mean what is the project going to be...? The AE86 is likely just going to be a project in class, although, i do have a turbo laying in my room and the 86 is carboreated. I know next to nothing about turbocharging carboreated engines, so if someone could give me a few pointers if i decide to, that'd be great.

AE86s aren't supposed to be carb. It looks like you have a SR-5 trim. The motor is a 4A-C which is a weak SOHC 1.6L motor. The GT-S version came with a DOHC 4AGE 1.6L motor which has TVIS (Toyota Variable Intake System).
Both these engines are EFI, so I'm not sure what kind of carb setup is in the 86.

As eddie said, it is carboreated, i believe it's a 4a-fe motor though, tough motor, just weak in power.

The only problem is the input shaft is slightly smaller, but pretty much any autozone.advanced will have the one that works. It is Motormite 14672.
I ran a stock 4cyl T5 in my 2.3turbo mustang for two full seasons with probablr close to 250 1/4mile passes all on slicks. With mist 60' being in the low 1.6 to high 1.5's. running high 11's. Not to mention a bunch of street driving It would still be in the car but a bearing started to whine. And because of what you think and most the 5.0 guys who don't care to learn about things the 4cyl T5 are cheaper to buy than fix
Also most T5 failures are more of a driver failure than the trany.
If you plan on making enough HP to where the 4cyl trany would be a major worry, better start thinking of a Tremec or better yet a G-force T5
You also have to remeber that a stock transmission that will hold 11's in a 3400# car will take a whole lot more abuse in a 2300# car.
BTW, I'm also running a 4cyl t5 in my rx7

You talked to the wrong mustang guys. All t5 transmissions 86 on where world class. They are all made from the same material. I'm down to only two realistic projects and have done one, now i can save up again to get the engine in my car. I will now have a nice daily driver to get me around before and after doing so.
