Question Sunroof sealing?

I have an 83 GSL with the removable roof panel. I just got a glass piece to replace the steel panel, but it needs a new perimeter seal. This is the seal that goes around the outside edge of the glass to help fill the gap between the glass panel and the body opening, not the seal at the body that meets the underside of the glass itself.

Anyone know of a place that still sells this part or is there maybe a universal NAPA seal part # that I could make work? Thanks to all and happy holidays!!

Was looking thru Black Dragon's website... it looks as if it was originally part of the panel assembly... I'll try a mazda dealer sometime later this week... I'm not having much hope though...

The glass "moon" roof does not use a perimeter trim piece like the metal panel. The rubber seal attached to the body keeps the water out as long as the 4 drains are kept open.

Ahhhh... thank you for the enlightenment. Is there a lot of wind noise with that open gap all the way around though? Unable to really test it at the moment - roads are now salty and nasty until sometime in March or April.

Yeah,... it's torture to only drive the minivan while the 7 just sits in the garage.

No excessive wind noise, the glass moon roof seals against the weather strip on the car. It is awesome, I hardly ever use the metal one.

I'm thinking that it was well worth the purchase price... just sitting in the car, you have a LOT more light coming in.

Does anyone know of a way of sealing the two front slots where the roof panel slides in? Previous owner claimed that water would sometimes peep into the car from those slots during a car wash trip or in a heavy rain. Is this possible or was it just a leaking main roof panel seal?

I know the feeling. My metal panel has been stored inside the bag for more than 5 years. Even though it was painted at the same time as the car, I doubt they match anymore.......
Going to be repainting car soon, hope I don't forget about the metal roof.

the two slot things have some sort of rubber/foam seal to seal them against the body. replacement of the seal is pretty easy, although you have to make something. those things are just in there with the two screws, and i think you can drop the headliner at the sunroof enough to get em out (headliner has clips under a seaming welt)
