Sunroof problem

I have an 85 GSL-SE that I just bought. It has the metal sunroof. The **** raises the sunroof like it should. When I lower the sunroof it doesn't seal down, and the **** never tightens up. If the sunroof is dropped and the **** is all the way down, I can still push the sunroof all the way up with my hand with minimal effort. I used the search button but didn't come up with anything. Is this a common problem with these cars? If so, what will I need to fix it. I don't want to tear it apart before I figure out what I need to buy. If someone has the parts, I have the brown interior.

Sounds like the threads in the mechanism have stripped. Post a wanted to buy in the for sale section.

Would I need the whole mechanism? Or is there a way to fix the inside? I noticed blackdragon has the mechanism in their catalog. http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icata...l.aspx?Page=13 part #59-963-BN. Do you think this is what I need?

They can be fixed. I've taken them apart and fixed the plastic screw **** with JB Weld. If you can find a replacement it would be easier though. I'd fix the one you have or find a replacement before spending $129.

I just fixed my sunroof. The **** and the screw is one piece and mine broke while closing the top one day. So it did the same thing. I would go up but not tighten when closing. I went to a local pick and pull and grabbed one out of the same year. JB weld may hold for a while but it would be better to find the whole piece if you can
