Talking SUCCESS!!! only took 9 hours of labor

The Racing Beat SS line last week was pouring oil.

WHat I did

10/21/2002

10:00 am

1. bought new crush washers
2. bought teflon sealant non-hardening
3. dismantled 85 GSL-SE to get to the Oil COOLER
4. Found 3 cracks, 2 on the top and 1 on the bottom, had it welded for $50.

1:00 pm

5. lunch
6. Put everything together
7. Decided not to put the intake plenum that goes across in front of the radiator to the battery, thought it might get me some cold air in front.
8. Had trouble with battery, I removed + then - which I think is not the right way, because my GSL-SE wasn't right when it started, then it wouldn't start.
9. Hardest fitting is the one located in front of the Rotary block just above the cross member engine mount area, because you have to remove: fan shroud, fan, A/C belt, Power Steer belt, and worst of all not a lot of room to move anything. (smashed my pinky on the radiator a week ago)
10. Cleaned up

7:00 pm

11. Car won't start because of battery removal mishap(would click only), I removed the negative first then the possitive and left the car alone for about 10 mins.

12. GSL-SE fired right up, lots of smoke, but no oil leak,

Drove GSL-SE about 45 miles tonight.

IN THE END

SUCCESS only took 9 hours with about 45 min. lunch break.

NEXT PROJECT
from IMPORTANT to Not-So IMPORTANT PROJECT

1. Bonez CAT $245 at www.rx7.com (need to pass CA emission)
2. HKS MEGAFLOW 86-92 intake, It should fit GSL-SE too. $180 or less if I can find one at E-bay
3. REBUILD transmission, synchros are out, lots of annoying grinding noise on every gear.
???? somewhere between $400 - $800
4. MSD 6A ignition box . $140 or less at E-bay
5. Get new set of tires on stock rims. ????? maybe $200 ???
6.Polish everything. hours of labor
7. 90 amp or more Alternator. $60 or less
8. Tokico Racing 5 shocks
9. RB header, Mind Train Big throat muffler, or a complete Mind Train Exhaust.

1.9 years from now or so

10. Replace intake with 2nd gen 89-92 intake, the one with the high impedement injectors already, different design intake. Wiring harness, ECU and the rest that needs to be converted in order for it to work.

11. Rebuild Engine: put CERAMIC Apex seals, turbo II rotors, hardened stationary gears, Centerforce II clutch and Centerforce II steel flywheel 14 lbs., lightened driveshaft, tonsen differential.

couple of years from now

12. Buy RX-8
