The Yahoo is the 3L220 right?

warwickben 02-27-08 06:07 PM

yeah it is.

pineapple racing sells it i think i got it shipped for less then 20 bucks cant remember. i cant figure out how to get it on with out twisting.
it woun't stop twisting. need to figure out how to prevent that

after you remove the fan, remove the bolts that hold the fan hub on to the water pump.you wount be able to get the belt over the fan hub. loop the belt around the e-shaft pulley and place it as best as you can on the water pump pulley. put the fan hub and 4 bolts back on. i put the bolts in with out the hub and the threads got messed up (i am not sure why). get a 19 mm socket and turn your motor clock wise guiding the belt on like a bike chain. if the belt becomes twisted put a screw drive between the belt and pulley(water pump) at about 9 o'clock and turn your e shaft clock wise. it will pop back off. i tried for hours trying to keep the belt from twisting.

Maybe it would be easier to just leave the air pump on, or turn it into an idler.

This 'yahoo' belt sounds like a bad deal. It must be bad if a Gilmer belt sounds better!

Waste of money unless you want a noise maker and wanna "pretend" to have a supercharger. It is hard on the alt bearings. But hell, if you wanna do it then "GO BIG".

MattG 02-28-08 12:41 AM

Gosh, that is a BEAST!

t_g_farrell 02-28-08 03:30 AM

Yeah dual pulleys and relocate the alternator like this. No more water pump slip. I got the old pineapple bracket from a member for like 60 bucks. They don't make em anymore.

Box_Man 02-28-08 04:38 PM

Suppose I wanted to CNC myself some gilmer pullies, does anyone know anything about the pitch and size of the teeth on the tweakit pulleys?

warwickben 02-28-08 04:50 PM

I'll see if I can figure out what the thread count is tomorrow. Just from looking at the bolt think it's 5X1.5.

As a last resort, I can base my parts off of Volkswagen 16V timing components, as they are gilmer based with a 1.5 inch wide belt.

Box_Man 02-28-08 08:49 PM

The bolt's pitch is 1.0, but my micrometers are cheap plastic crap and I don't really trust them. The bolt is 5.5mm by what they say, but I'm not sure. I think the bolt is actually 6X1.0. I tried my electronic micrometer, but the battery is dead. I really think it's a 6mm bolt though.

Its hard to find the damn gilmer in the states anyway. Dan over at atkins didnt seem to know what i was talking about. i want one purely for looks. Wont hear it over the turbo anyway :)
