stuck in the middle

howzit- I'm in the middle of changing my front strut inserts on my 83', was a bitch to get the top nut off the rod, but thank god for vise grips( I'm airless ), so now I have the spring and perch stuff off and I'm wondering how the inserts' cap nut cover comes off, pry it or does it unscrew? after that I read(Haynes and Chiltons) that you need a special tool to get down in the strut housing to unscrew the cap nut? Wish I had a factory manual- any help would be great! Thanks-Buffalo
