Strange noise at idle just started and idle is not steady

my 85 GS is having a fit, she keeps moaning (seriously) its like a really strange hollow metal on metal sound and just started getting anxious when idling...just kinda jumps from 400 to 2,000 rpm...anyone know what's wrong with my baby?

Huh... I have never hear of that. Is the hollow sound coming from your frame or the actual engine block? Maybe try a compresion test first to see if you have any blown seals and then work from there?

i think its coming from the block but compression is fine

Learn to state what the problem is with the car. :-)

Sounds like shutter valve also to me.
Do a search with the terms shutter valve to see what the total symptons are and if it matches what is going on with your car.
