Stoked. FB going in for brake upgrade.

Finally, FINALLY, I have the funds to get my brake job done. Good thing, too, as that left rear caliper has gotten worse. So, I scheduled for my FB to go in next Tue for the repair. But, this'll be more than just a repair, I'm currently awaiting my other parts to come in. I ordered Hawk brake pads for both axles, along with stainless steel brake lines. Coupled with a new brake caliper and new rotors that should be in tomorrow, I can't wait for next week. Now I don't have to worry about that damn grinding when I get on the brakes hard. My stainless steel clutch line should be in by the end of this week, I hope, so I'll stick that in possibly before the brake job. The other question that's going through my head is: what next? MSD ignition? New shocks and struts? Actually now that I think about it, Rotary Performance has a nice intake kit I have my eye on. I'm thinking of doing up my own sealed box with aluminum and sealant if I do get it. I smell another project coming up.

calipers and rotors

who did you go with for the calipers and rotors. I'm trying to decide what mfg to go with. I saw powerslot but they don't make rear rotors. KVR makes them all the way around but they are 1 piece. I'm looking to buy soon.

You might want to put on a set of stock pads in the rear instead of the Hawks.... I know my car was a little squirrely under braking with hawks in the back.... BTW, where in VA are you?

caliper and rotors

Mazdatrix has them all the way around as well but they do not offer slotted only oem and cross drilled.

I'm looking to buy as soon as I can decide. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chuck

huh...interesting. Please explain a little more. Do you mean that you just were able to lock up the rears easier?

Congrats on the upgrade 85, let us know how they work.

I'm located in good ol' Manasshole....er, I mean Manassas. But, I live more in the outer, quieter portion, away from the city, near Wellington. The pads were ordered so they're on their way. The guy at RP Performance said that Hawk pads on all fours with stock rotors can do just fine, so that's what I'm going for.

And, now that I checked my order again because I was curious about something, sure enough, I was right. The sales rep sold me Rear HP Plus Road/Race Disc Brake Pads instead of the Rear Ferro Carbon Disc Brake Pads for nearly the same price as my front Front Ferro Carbon Disc Brake Pads at $52.42 (the fronts are $52.21). Hmm, so I'll have some more serious heavier duty pads on the rear than the front. Ha, well this'll be interesting when I slide into a corner. I hope my rear doesn't bite too hard, what with I already have to deal with sidewall flex.

ccauley: I bought the rotors from Auto Zone and the caliper from Advanced Auto Parts. I don't remember the mfgs' names. Had I REMEMBERED the price Auto Zone gave me for the caliper, I would've saved myself a trip. :P Oh well, I got the parts in my hands now, just waiting on the pads. Also, I'd stick with slotted fronts and stock rears because cross drilled always has that deal where heat stress will cause cracks in the holes. Altho, others may say they've had no problem with theirs, I, personally, don't want to take the chance.

I just put on the mazdatrix rotors on my car. . . they are now drilled and slotted. their website hasnt been updated. anyways the frist set they sent was not high quality. the machine work sucked. so they sent another set and it looks better.
rear

front, the suface doesnt go to the hat, but mazdatrix sadi they would be fine.

the hawks tend to lock up the rear on my car.

Well, looks like I might be in for a surprise when those heavy duty rear pads clamp down on the rotors.

And, I just got off the phone with TruckPerformance and my order probably won't be in my hands until late NEXT WEEK. Dammit, now I gotta cancel my appointment until I confirm when the parts will be in. This sucks due to the fact that I think that caliper is just days away from being completely frozen and I can't drive the thing anymore.

I thought you were always supposed to replace brake parts in pairs (ie replace both rear calipers). It probably isnt as important on rear brakes tho...

No, the guy said that the other caliper was just fine. Said just to go ahead and replace the bad one.
