stock radio help

so i've had no radio for some now. i pulled a working radio/tape player/eq from an 85 gsl. i wired everything the right way (i'm pretty sure). i also have both amps and the joystick now hooked up. my problem is the radio will only work now if the power button is pressed in halfway and i have to hold it there. can someone help me with possable wires to test or anything like that? i looked in the 85 manual and it doens't match up. i know i have the first setup but i can not plug two amps into my radio. only two of the three canon plugs were used the 3rd has a plastic cover on it. when i took it out it had one round plug from the amp and one round plug from the eq. i'm lost right now. i had sound for a little while but i had to keep my finger on the power button.

That sounds like the power button is bad. Does it latch in halfway when you try to turn it on?

i thought about the power button too. but it worked fine in the donor car. tomorrow i will put it back in the donor car to make sure nothing got shorted out. but i am almost positive that it is good. all i can say is that it seem like it's not getting enough power...

sounds like you have a problem with your constant or Accessory wiring, probably wired incorrectly. here's a wiring diagram....

for the plug part the same thing happened to me! out of the three (8 pin white, 6 pin white, 6 pin black) the 6 pin white was plugged. i have 2 amps.. so the black 6 pin is using only the rear amp i guess. the 8 pin white goes to the eq. i just learned this but havent experimented to i may be wrong. also my car is equipped with 82-83 model radios.

for the holding button part my power button is fine. just my electronic tuner button i have to hold in. when i do it shows the station on the screen but no sound... no sound at all hold or no hold.. might need an eq for that.. or i might just need another radio deck

once i get an eq then i can try to wire everything up.. i have a recent thread about this.. posting pictures soon and hopefully get this resolved. the reason why i am keeping stock setup is because i planned to restore how my car was when it came out the factory.

as a follow up to this thread.. same with me except a 82-83 stereo system w/ eq, joystick. from what i have leanred by examining the wires of the stereo is that a black 6 pin canon is to hookup to the radio, a white 8 pin canon is for the eq. another white 6 pin canon is not used that is why it is capped. the black 6 pin canon goes into the joystick which splits into two other canons (black and white) one for the front amp and one for the rear amp and from there to your speakers.

as for you holding in the power halfway to get sound i have no idea. this same problem happens to me but it is with the tuner button instead of the power button. if anybody knows how to resolve this problem that would be greatly appreciated. if all else fails we can just buy new radio deck if amps, eq, and joystic all work.
