is this the stock engine?

OK, so I was bored this morning and looking around mazdatrix and they had a spark plug socket and said that on 81 and later cars they had a lip around the spark plugs, making it hard to remove plugs. I have a 79 rx-7 with such a lip. Did the 79's also have that? The exhuast has been swapped for the later style w/o the thermal reactor and I thought maybe the engine was too.

The 79 and 80 did not have the lip, so the engine has been changed.

thanks.....are 81-85 the 225mm clutch, or just the 83-85? It had a 215mm clutch, but I dont know if who ever put it on before me knew the difference....Also, are their going to be any major differences that I need to watch out for?

I was looking at the exhaust port and comparing it to the picture of a street port and it looks like it has been ported as well.....

Does it vibrate while running? If not, you've got an engine produced before they went to the lighter rotating assembly in '83.

It hasnt ran since 95 when they replaced the chain and didnt get it back in time. Right now, it is actually in a million peices waiting on me to put it back together with fresh parts...hence why I wanted to make sure I was putting the right parts on it. Other than the shot coolant seals, the engine is in great shape, I've just never seen it run.
