I had the same problem.

I ran a carb/injector cleaner through the setup, it helped a bunch.

BUT, oddly enough, what fixed it, was the installation of an aftermarked full exhaust system.

I'm not sure if something was just bumped during the installation, removed, or just less restriction fixed it.

I totally hear you tho. Its really annoying eh.

Usually upshifting (4th to 3rd, etc) stopped it for mine, but one time, i just got so pissed, i floored it, and then just kept downshifting. I heard some massive backfiring, and then slowed the car way down, it kept backfiring, so i let the car sit for a bit. It helped. Problem still persisted until exhaust system.

i have an aftermarket exhaust system and still keeps up.
the only thing im missing for full exhaust is my racing beat headers.
but yeah it is a pain in the butt
and it is when i downshift from 4th or 5th to third that it does it

Hmmmmmm.

You got me. I searched for the longest time for the fix to this. Nobody ever really helped me. People said a lot of stuff, but never really anything that helped. (previous message boards).

Perhaps try carb cleaner spray from schucks or something. Go there and read the instructions on it, that may be what you need.

Good luck man, let me know if you finally fix it. I stopped worrying about mine when the problem magically dissapieared.

This happend to me and it turned out to be something in the vacumm setup so i made mech secondaries and the problem dissapeared. If you wanna try that read sterling carb mood in the archives it is pretty simple and then they should not lock open man that **** is crazy when they lock open.
