Unhappy Sticky throttle

A couple of times now my throttle sticks when I floor the peddle. The rpm stays about 3 to 4k when I release the peddle and I notice a dark smoke coming out the tail pipe. It doesn't do it all the time, only when I seem to be in traffic and I have to put heavy braking on to keep the car from running away from me. Everything is stock in the car. It's a 84 GSL with an auto transmission and runs well otherwise. Anybody have any thoughts on the problem???

I would clean the carb linkages really well, dirt can cause the linkages to stick. My linkages were nasty and it took a few cleanings to get it clan and working well. When they're all clean use a liberal amount of WD-40 on them for lubrication. Good luck!

I cleaned all the linkages with carb & choke cleaner, but I need to get some WD-40. As soon as I lube up the linkages I'll give it a try. Thanks!!

Automatic transmission... there's your problem right there....

Also, lube the cable! You can buy little attachments that you put on the end of the cable housing, and it forces a lubricant or cleaner through the housing... just don't go overkill, or you'll end up with a puddle on the floor of your car...

if nothing else works add a return spring on the carby
so that the spring pulls back a bit harder.
