Stereo swap.
Sorry in advance if this has been covered. I've looked, and would appreciate a link if it has.
I have an 85 FB. The stock stereo (which is awesome looking) doesn't work. I've ordered wire harnesses and a metra install kit for a single din.
Just curious if anyone could explain how the original stereo comes out. Is there anything unusual?
Thanks in advance.

it is so easy to remove, that I can't recall details. Crutchfield gives you the metra harness for free when you buy the radio from them. Only pain is the plastic wire connectors are so old, they will disintegrate into dust when you disconnect them.
The top end stereo also had a joystick fader in that area.
The factory service manual and wiring diagram explains that options and what each wire does. The systems without the joystick have a special little jumper piece in that area. If you pull all this out keep it/sell it. Someone may be able to use it.

when you have it apart you will see two bullet connectors, do not connect them. they are for the A/T shifter light, and without the resistance of the bulb, it will blow the dash light rheostat.
