Hi Guys im going to replace my tie-rods on my rallycar. Because they are probaly 40 years old and im getting quicker and quicker so i just wants to be safe. Im thinking maybe i could upgrade to racecar rods ore somebody is making a better part for racing.
Does anybody have any ideas ore links?
Cool car!.
The original equipment inner and outer tie rod ends seem to be pretty stout. At least they are for street and pavement road racing. The only reason I replaced the outer tie rods on my race car was to correct for bump steer. Perhaps on a car that will be driven off road they may be a little weak. Have you researched what the factory Mazda Pro Rally teams used back in the 80's?
Anyway, I detailed my process for changing the outer tie rods and modifications I made to the steering arm to accommodate the conversion in this thread - https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...-992966/page4/ - starting in post #93
Strong enough for what? It is significantly stronger than the OE piece it replaces.
I am using a .625" Aurora 3 piece rod end, which in my experience is the best of its type that can be bought anywhere. 5 FB E Production SCCA race cars in my home town use these in as outer tie rod ends and there have been no failures.....ever. Rod ends of this size are used to locate suspension members on race cars in all forms of Motorsports. In fact, on my car I have 8 .625" rod ends from the same manufacturer locating the rear axle in my race car.
Rod ends of this size are used as outer tie rod ends on 3000-38000lb Mustang race cars including the 85 Mustang in my garage to correct bump steer. Here is an example of what is used on Mustangs and Stock cars - http://pitstopusa.com/search.html?q=Bump+Studs
The down side of a setup like this is that it eliminates the tapered fit of the OE tie rod end so you do need to inspect them for tightness regularly.

Great thanks i will be doing that then. Do you happen to have the Mazda part number for the inner rod Mazda Denmark is not great at these cars. Very nice and very helpful thread by the way the rules in your racing class and mine seams very similar so a big help.

Reason: Misspelling
I am pretty sure that the inner tie rod ends on my car came from an aftermarket supplier and are not Mazda parts. I think I got them from www.rockauto.com

Thanks man. I will try that unfortunately the import taxes and shipping cost to much to buy things like that in the US.
I just converter my steering box from oil to greas and installed a steering quickener that really did wonders on my driving
