Stays running after key is out?

If anyones seen my threads, you know I pulled my motor and did the clutch at the same time. Im trying to save myself some re-explanation.

Well, I didn't mess with any wiring except the main harness that disconnects before the firewall on the passenger side. But now when I take the key out, the car still runs. Fuel pump is off, radio is off, the engine just runs off the left over gas in the carb. Now with the engine off, and key out, I checked the power at the coils, and got nothing until I turned the key. WTF? I've tried searching for this, but got nothing decent in return.

Check your connections at the alternator. First time i swapped a motor i had a connection wrong at the alternator and the car would continue to run with the key out of the ignition.
Hope that helps,
Bryan

Thanks. I kept searching after I posted, and found something several pages deep, that agrees with what you are saying.

Went out and saw that I had the wrong "T'' type plug hooked up to the alt. Haha, my bad. All is well now, except my tach jumps a little when the car is idling, its a smooth idle but the tach will show around 800 then kinda bounce to 1300 and goes between there erratically. Probably unrelated to this problem though.

Don't know if this counts for rotary, but an engine is an engine. With a carburated vehicle it is possible for the engine to diesel. If there is excessive carbon buildup it will create hot spots in the combustion chamber thus igniting the fuel mixture on its own. Since the engine diesels on, as long as air is being pulled into the engine, fuel will be added via the carb assembly. This is a strong possibility. I am a Certified Master Tech and see this from time to time on older carburated models. Just thought I'd throw that out there in the air as an option.
