Starting / Driving Issues

Hi all! Hope you might be able to help me out with a little starting/drivability issue I am having. I put on a Racing Beat header and 2-1/2" exhaust on my 12A powered SA. I noticed afterwards the car seemed to bog under acceleration. I backed the idle mix and idle speed down a bit. That really helped throttle response but the car wanted to stall when slowing down at a stop sign or downshift, etc. There is also a fine line between being able to get the car to start and the car not starting because of flodding now. Can anyone help? Could it be a jet issue with the carb, or.....? I haven't had a whole lot of time to toy with the car but so want to get it running reliably and drive the thing! Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Keith

Make sure that all of your blockoff plates are in place and that you used a good sealant on them....

The block-off plates I have are sealed pretty well. Another car guy friend, who told me he has never turned a wrench on a rotary, thought that maybe it was a carb issue - like needing a bigger jet in the carb. He thought maybe it wasn't getting enough gas on start-up so to compensate for that use a bigger jet in the carb. Is that possible? This is my first rotary and truthfully, first carb'ed car I have worked on.

It sounds JUST LIKE a carb full of debris. You can either rebuild it (kit isnt very much like $24 at Advance Auto) or get a can of Sea Foam and start your car (if possible) dump some right into the carb's throat, keep your rpm's above 2000, then at about the halfway point (can half full) let go of the throttle cable and pour all of the rest of the stuff in and drown it, let it sit overnight, start it the next day and it will smoke like hell but will take alot of the crap out. might improve your idle, it worked on my last FB. Good luck, lots of things to try, always start with the cheapest and most common (usually works)
