Question Starting a 13B engine.

Starting a 13B engine.

I saw a mechanic putting oil down the carburetor to start a 12A engine that was parked for several months, and after a couple of try the engine started. The engine smoked for a minute or two but after that it was find. Now my question is, how can be done with a GSL-SE 13B engine with fuel injection?

Thank you,

easiest is to pull the lower spark plugs put a couple of drops in each, rotate the crank till another chamber is exposed repeat till all chambers have 2~3 drops of oil in them (3 chambers per rotor)

then replace plugs and start.

I dont think you should drop it down the carb, that seems wrong to me. Then again, I could be wrong.

One of these days when you flood a rotary to death, you will remember this little hint in the back of your mind. After the engine starts, you will bow to the rotary gods for placing this little tidbit hidden away in the gray matter.

If you look down the carb throat you might notice the two spots where oil is injected into the carb throat. Putting a little more than usual will not hurt, just don't use a whole quart. I use a good spoonful when needed.

There should be a vacuum source somewhere on the manifold for the GSL-SE. As long as you can get oil into the manifolds, you should be good. On my second gen I pull a little vacuum line to the MAP sensor and then use a syringe to inject oil into the manifold that way.
