Starters failing left and right!

Tuesday night I dropped under the SE to install my spare JY starter 'cause it had failed a couple months ago and I finally got around to it. Wednesday morning the starter died on the 85GSL while I was at the shopping center: got a push start and drove straight to the neighborhood garage so I wouldn't have to do it again myself. Wednesday afternoon while picking up a reman starter for the 85GSL the starter died on my 83GS! I'm expecting a reman starter from rockauto.com today so I guess I'll put that in tonight since the 83GSL is stalled in the driveway and it's easier to just replace it than get it over to the neighborhood garage.

Three starters in three days? Good thing the ol' reliable REPU is still good. Or is THAT starter going to fail?

Ive had terrible luck with reman starters on these cars. Once I get a good one its fine. Many others have had the same experiences from my readings over the years.

Around here the remans have a bad rep, too. They say the Hells Angels do the remans and skimp on parts. So the one I got locally was from Kohlweiss, our best locally owned outfit with a good longtime rep (and there's a "Bosch reman" tag on it), and the one being shipped is a Delco reman from Rockauto, which has been good for me so far.

But the franchise auto stores like Kragens are very iffy on any rebuild.
