starter replacement and squeaky slave cylinder

I bought a 83 gsl about a week ago with the intent of restoring it. It needed paint badly as well as clutch work and a new starter. I know buying a car that you’ve never heard run is a bad idea, but I decided to do it anyway.

Anyone have any experience pulling the starter? Where are the bolts? What should I expect? What size are the bolts? Etc

The clutch problem was actually really easy to figure out. The hydro system wasn’t building any pressure, so I popped the hood and had a friend pump the petal only to see break fluid shoot out of the slave cylinder. Problem found.

I installed a new slave yesterday and did the gravity bleed thing. Today (about 30 minutes ago) I bled it the right way (using the pump 3 times, hold, repeat method) and it feels much better, but the slave squeaks as the clutch petal is pushed in.

The slave cylinder is a new part, so it's probably not the slave. I’m thinking that there was some air stuck somewhere that I didn’t get out with today’s bleed, but that may not be the case.

Thoughts?

Not sure if the GSL is the same as the other models. I have a GS, it's incredibly easy to replace the starter - it's under the driver's side of the car. Two bolts, disconnect the two wires, that's it.

You should look into getting a Haynes Manual, it'll show you step by step how to do it.

The squeaking is probably comming from the clutch pressure plate itself or perhaps from the pedal unit inside the car.

Grease the pedal linkage but if it is the pressure plate there is not much you can do about the squeking except to ignore it.

Did you change out the master at the same time you changed the slave?

I had a squeaky master once - which turned out to be the pedal to piston linkage. It was WD'd away....

The master is new(er). Either that or it's really really really clean. I don't know, I didnt replace it but I have the feeling the previous owner did.

As for the starter: I got it in after a fair amount of effort. Got out from under the car, reconnected the battery, and heard an electric motor start spinning. I traced the sound to the starter that I just replaced and diconnected the battery.

It's probalby just switched wires or a wire touching two terminals or something. Is that possible?

That's not the big problem. The bigger problem is that the engine was not spinning along with the starter.... Ideas?
